HOW TO PREPARE NIGERIANS FRIED RICE!

How To Make Nigerian Fried Rice

Fried rice is one of the most widely eaten Nigerian food; it is accepted by almost every Nigerian both at home and in Diaspora. The process of making fried rice is a bit complicating but gets easier with time.
Here is the complete ingredient for making this delicious Nigerian food although some of them could be omitted depending of personal preferences.

Ingredients for Nigeria fried rice. (6-8 persons)
  • 4 cups of rice
  • 5 cups of sliced Cabbage
  • 2 cups of sliced Carrot
  • Green beans {2 cups}
  • Peas {half cup}(optional)
  • 1 cup of sliced Green pepper
  • Liver {0.3kg}
  • Meat {2kg}(chicken, beef or goat meat)
  • Vegetable oil {150ml}
  • 1 cup of sliced Onions
  • Curry powder (coloring spice) {2 Tablespoons}
  • Salt and pepper to taste
I made fried rice with goat meat in the video below; it is easier to follow the video if you are not on a mobile device (although most mobile devices can now play internet videos).
Fried Rice
What you find above is a deliciously made fried rice with grilled chicken. I do have a Complete Resource Here for how to grill chicken, fish, how to make salads, plus recipes for the top ten Nigerian rice meals. Awesome!!!

Preparation

Most Nigerian foods start with you parboiling the meat to be used, Most Niaja foods including fried rice goes along with fried or cooked meat. The most popular meat in Nigerian is either chicken or beef.
Parboil the goat meat, chicken or any other you chose with all the necessary ingredient (teaspoon of salt, half cup of sliced onions, teaspoon of thyme spice, teaspoon of curry, 2 cubes of maggi or knorr). Allow the meat to cook for ten to fifteen minutes, taste for salt, then pick out and grill, deep fry or barbecue. Be sure to reserve the stock (meat water)
Chop the cabbage, green beans, carrot, liver and set aside in a wide tray as you can find in the video below or the image above. This process is easy, I normally use just a knife and chopping board or a tray.
Remove the white center seeds from the green pepper and also slice.
Parboil the 4 cups of rice also and cook with half of the meat stock (water from the meat) and two cups of water, cook until it is about 80% done. (You will learn more about this from the video below). You have to observe the rice closely. it doesnt need to be too soft or too hard, just almost done. You can add water as you observe.

Here is how to make Fried Rice In Nigeria

Set your cooking pot on heat, allow to dry, then pour in about 150ml of groundnut or vegetable oil (some folks also prefer cooking margarine) If you want to use cooking margarine 150g would be enough.
Note: It is better to continue with the same oil you used while frying the meat (that is only if you fried the meats), you can reduce it to 150ml.
Allow to heat then add the sliced onions stir for 1-2 minutes then add the chopped carrot and green beans, any of this two can actually go first. Add the cabbage also.
Stir for 1-2 minutes then add the curry powder (Curry is a yellowish spice that actually adds the yellowish color of fried rice, add and stir till you are satisfied with the color.) meat stock (water from the meat), add ground pepper (optional), add a teaspoon of salt and the chopped liver, add 1-2 cubes of maggi or knorr then stir and taste, you may add more salt.
You would have a yellowish mixture which would often taste overly spiced, don’t worry the rice would balance the taste. (If it doesn’t taste overly spiced it is advisable to add another cube of maggi and salt so it doesn’t become tasteless after you add the white rice {a trick}).
making-fried-rice
If you are satisfied with the taste then add the green pepper, stir, add the almost-done white rice, stir, cover your pot and cook for 5 to 10 minutes, you are done with fried rice.

ASO VILLA TO GET A NEW LOOK FOR INDEPENDENT CELEBRATION

Image result for ASO VILLA PICTURESThe Presidential Villa, Abuja is currently wearing a new look ahead of Nigeria’s 56th Independence anniversary holding on Saturday, October 1.
Programmes earmarked for the anniversary which the government described as low-key started with an interdenominational service at the National Ecumenical Centre, Abuja on Sunday.
A jumat service and anniversary lecture are slated for the National Mosque, Abuja on Friday (today).

The final programme is Presidential Change of Guard scheduled to hold at the forecourt of the Presidential Villa on Saturday.
Ahead of that programme that will attract members of the diplomatic corps, top government officials and other friends of the nation, workers were on Thursday busy giving the Presidential Villa a facelift.

All the white walls in the seat of power were repainted while the white-and-black road setbacks were also retouched.
Flowers and trees were also trimmed.
Workers of the construction giant, Julius Berger, saddled with the maintenance of the seat of power, carried out most of the exercise.
Government officials were also seen changing the numerous national and commander-in-chief’s flags at strategic places within the premises.
Canopies were also being erected in the forecourt where the event would hold while chairs were also being moved to the venue.

During the programme scheduled to start by 3pm on Saturday, there will be a ceremonial change of guards by soldiers attached to the Brigade of Guards who are in charge of the security of the President and the Federal Capital Territory.
Buhari will inspect the guard of honour at the ceremony, cut the anniversary cake, sign the anniversary register and release pigeons to symbolise peace.
He will be assisted by Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo; President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki; Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara; and the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Mahmud Muhammed.

EFCC REARRAIGN KALU

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has re-arraigned a former governor of Abia, Orji Kalu, and two others on a 34-count amended charge bordering on fraud.
Mr. Kalu, his company, Slok Nigeria Limited and his former Commissioner for Finance, Jones Udeogo, were re-arraigned before Justice Anwuri Chikere of the Federal High Court, Abuja on Tuesday.
The defendants’ plea that the court should await the pending appeal by Slok before the Supreme Court failed.
Justice Chikere refused the defendants’ objection to their arraignment and ordered that the charge be read to them.
Mr. Kalu and others were, in the amended charge, accused of diverting about N3.2 billion from the Abia government’s treasury during Mr. Kalu’s tenure as governor.
They all pleaded not guilty to the charges and Mr. Chikere allowed them on bail on the terms attached to the bail granted them on April 30, 2008.
They had, eight years earlier been arraigned before Justice Adamu Bello, who is now retired.
The court adjourned the case till Dec. 6 for commencement of trial.(NAN)

DANSUKI WAS MISSING IN COURT

The Federal Government has again failed to produce the former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, before an Abuja High-Court for trial.
Mr. Dasuki is accused of money laundering and corruption.
He was charged along with five others before Justice Peter Affen, and was granted bail. He was re-arrested and kept in custody of the State Security since December 2015.

Others being prosecuted along with the former NSA include a former Director of Finance in the Office of the NSA, Shuaibu Salisu, a former finance minister of state, Bashir Yuguda; a former Sokoto governor, Attahiru Bafarawa, the ex-governor’s son, Sagir Attahiru, and a firm, Dalhatu Investment.
At the resumed trial Thursday, counsel to the Federal Government, Rotimi Jacob, told the judge that he was surprised that Mr. Dasuki was not brought to court by his client.
Mr. Jacob said on his part he notified the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on the trial and the need to produce Mr. Dasuki in court, but said that communication gap between the EFCC and SSS was responsible for non-production of the former NSA in court.
Mr. Jacob applied to Justice Affen to stand down the case for him to enable his client to produce Mr. Dasuki in court.
He could not give a definite period within which the EFCC would bring the ex-NSA to court.
The action of the prosecution provoked reactions from Olajide Ayodele (SAN) counsel to former Minister of State for Finance, Mr. Yuguda, who opposed the request.
The senior counsel said the failure of the prosecution to give a definite time within which Mr. Dasuki would be brought to court by either EFCC or SSS was an indication that he haD no knowledge of what was transpiring between the EFCC and DSS on the matter.
Mr. Olajide therefore pleaded with the judge to adjourn the trial.
His position was adopted by Jacob Daudu, who stood for Mr. Dasuki and regretted that the government which put the ex-NSA on trial was the one scuttling the trial.
Mr. Daudu said since June when the matter was adjourned, the EFCC which initiated the trial on behalf of the Federal Government ought to have known that it its responsibility to produce Mr. Dasuki in Court as required by the law.
Former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Akin Olujimi, who stood for former Sokoto Governor, Attahiru Bafarawa, also opposed the request to stand down the case without a definite time.
He pleaded for an adjournment.
In his ruling, Justice Affen agreed that it would be unfair to stand down the case without a definite time within which Mr. Dasuki would be produced in court.
The judge advised the government to ensure Mr. Dasuki is in court, and adjourned the matter till October 21, 2016.

UNILAG SHUT DOWN OVER STUDENTS PROTEST

The authorities of University of Lagos (UNILAG), Akoka, have ordered the closure of the gates of the main campus at Akoka due to protest by students.

The aggrieved students were said to be protesting against the rustication of some members of the students' union.

The rusticated students were leaders of the students body that led a protest in April over poor electricity and water supply in the community, and the difficulty faced by a large number of students living off campus to attend classes as a result of the fuel crisis.

Members of the suspended University of Lagos Students Union (ULSU) executive had earlier in the month protested what they described as an “unjust rustication” of the union members.

The aggrieved students gathered at the school’s Senate building to demand thorough investigation of the suspensions of the students’ leaders, ranging from two to four semesters, for their role in a protest that led to the closure of the university in April.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Acting Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Alhaji Muhammadu Maccido.

“The Minister of Interior, Lt Gen (rtd) Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau, while making the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government, congratulates Nigerians at home and abroad on the commemoration of this year’s independence anniversary and assures them that Government is working assiduously to put in place various palliative measures to cushion the effects of the current economic challenges.

“The Minister enjoins all Nigerians to continue to support President Muhammadu Buhari in his avowed determination to build a strong, virile and united country in line with the dream of the country’s founding fathers”, the statement added.

ELECTION WAS RIGED PDP REACTS

Mr. Godwin Obaseki of the All Progressives Congress, APC, yesterday, emerged governor-elect of Edo State upon his declaration as the candidate with the highest number of votes in the governorship election held Wednesday. Obaseki polled 51.3% of the total votes cast in the election, according to the results declared yesterday. He was trailed by Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who polled 40% of the votes cast, according to the

Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC. Obaseki Obaseki The declaration was immediately challenged by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, which accused officials of INEC of conspiring with APC and Edo State government officials to rewrite results gathered at the polling centres. The returning officer for the election, Prof. Kayode Soremekun, who is Vice-Chancellor, Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, Ekiti State, declared Obaseki winner with 319,483 votes to the 253,173 votes credited to the PDP candidate, Ize-Iyamu. The APC candidate was also credited with majority of the votes in 13 of the 18 local government areas of the state, leaving the PDP candidate with majority votes in five LGAs. None of the other 17 political parties that participated in the election won a majority in any of the local governments. The declaration of Obaseki as the winner was immediately welcomed by the outgoing governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, and the victor (Obaseki). It’s good for democracy

Buhari President Muhammadu Buhari, yesterday, congratulated the government and people of Edo State for a peaceful conclusion of the election. In a telephone call to Governor Oshiohmole yesterday, the President noted with delight the victory of the All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate, Godwin Obaseki. He commended the well articulated campaign programme of the APC in the state, the doggedness of the governor, governor-elect and party members in going round the state to reach the people with records of good governance. He said: “The victory is good for democracy, for Nigeria and for the people of Edo.” He applauded INEC, security agencies, corps members and the electorate in ensuring peaceful election in the state. Welcoming his declaration, Obaseki lauded the salutary roles played by President Buhari; his campaign manager, Osarodion Ogie; his wife Betsy Obaseki, even as he gave very special appreciation to the Governor Oshiomhole.

We’ll fulfil campaign promises — Obaseki He promised to press ahead with his campaign promises saying: “By your votes, you clearly affirmed your faith in my ability to lead our state into a new era. This is a responsibility Philip Shaibu, my running mate, and myself do not take lightly. Our promise to build a state anchored on a productive economy that will transform and empower our citizens is sincere. “We promised jobs. We promised empowerment of our citizens. We promised improved social welfare services and a more secured state. We will strive to deliver on all of these promises. As we travelled all over our great state selling our programmes, we also took note of your concerns and problems, and I want to assure you that we will do everything in our power to address them. “Let me, at this point, sincerely salute the courage of all those, who came out to exercise their franchise in spite of the intimidating manoeuvres of merchants of violence to derail the conduct of a peaceful, free and fair election; you are the heroes of this election! You saw through their propaganda and lies, and you made the right decision.” We’ve retired PDP chieftains —

Oshiomhole Welcoming the outcome of the election, Oshiomhole said he had now permanently retired some PDP chieftains from active politics. Speaking after a road show round the state capital, the governor said: “They said they would disgrace Oshiomhole in this election because they were plotting evil during the elections, but God thwarted all their plans, and I told our people these people wanted to kill us because of election, but they will never succeed. And I want to thank security agents, who worked so hard to ensure that those evil people were apprehended. “Just look at the result of the election, Igbinedion lost his ward, Ikimi was defeated in Igueben, and that is because these people have lost touch with the people. “We had a rerun in 2012 with all the godfathers on one side and new forces of change on my side. I won in all the 18 local government areas. Our people have spoken loud and clear that they believe in democracy, they just don’t want to be beneficiaries, they want to be the drivers of the process. This was shown by the way they conducted themselves on election day. “There is something unique in the way things have turned out. In Esan land, the senatorial zone of the PDP godfather, we won two out of the five local governments. We gave him a fight that he managed to escape. He used the factor of his age to play on the emotion of the people. It is a victory for the people of the state.” ,

Drama intrigues accusations The declaration of results at the INEC collation centre was, however, characterised by much intrigue and drama starting from the night of the election, when declaration of results was suspended at about 1.30 a.m., yesterday. The PDP immediately cried wolf, alleging that the suspension of the declaration was part of the plot by the APC and its collaborators in INEC and security agencies to cook fake result sheets. The party, through its spokesman in the state, Chris Enehikare, had declared that based on results from the polling units, the PDP candidate was having a comfortable lead across the state and warned that efforts to subvert the results would be stiffly resisted.

Meanwhile about the same time, the APC running mate, Philip Shuaibu led a group of APC partisans to the INEC collation centre in Etsako West Local Government area over disputes arising from collation in the area. The collation officer for the area alleged that Shuaibu pulled a gun at him to force his imprint on the result. Shuaibu, however, disputed the account, saying he was shocked by the report of the local government area collation officer. “The same collation officer that went on air lying that I was harassing him with a gun is the same man who promised that the matter will be sorted out in Benin. So, we left the collation center with that mindset that we were leaving for Benin to take decision on the matter because the duty of the collation officer in that ward was to collate what is given to him and not to cancel and there was no element of violence in my unit that will result in the issue of cancellation of any result,” Shuaibu said in defence of the allegations against him. KOWA governorship candidate, Mr. Osadolor Kingsley, also joined the fray as he called for cancellation of the election, citing irregularities in the election process. He alleged that the voters were financially induced in most of the wards and units across the 18 local government areas of the state which made them vote against their will. Ize-Iyamu rejects results Rejecting the result at a press conference, yesterday, Ize-Iyamu, who expressed amazement at the way it turned out said the results did not reflect the figures collated at the polling centres and the wards. First, we are in total amazement at the details of the results released by INEC because all of them are fake and not the figures announced at various units and as collated at various wards across the state. The fake results announced by INEC are entirely a fabrication which did not reflect the true picture of what transpired during the election.” “However, we are not totally surprised because long before now, we had anticipated this and had also warned INEC, security agencies and alerted Edo people at various press conferences and statements, on this situation.” “Secondly, based on the results emanating from across the state, PDP won the election fair and square, and with a very comfortable margin. So it is with disgust that we have been receiving fake results which were never recorded in either the units or the ward collations centres. Justifying the decision to reject the results, he said: “We know that a fair turnout of voters was recorded state-wide because the weather was very clement and voters were enthusiastic. However, unknown to unsuspecting Edo electorate, INEC had long provided the serial numbers of all result sheets to Adams Oshiomole and his APC government, to print fresh result sheets “This is not a mere allegation. From the benefit of hindsight, the 18 day period of postponement of the election was to provide enough time for the Governor and his government to print these result sheets and perfect the writing of fake results at the units and at all levels of collation. This scenario is further buttressed by the fact that on Monday, September 26th, 2016, when election materials arrived from the CBN at INEC state office for inspection, agents of the political parties including the APC and PDP were given pre-typed copies of the serial numbers of all result sheets and the ballot papers. This was a clear security breach and an infringement on the credibility of the process, as these are sensitive materials, which should not have been sighted even by INEC officers. “Everything that has transpired had been carefully designed by the Adams Oshiomole led Edo State government and their cohorts in INEC. They perfected a scheme to void thousands of ballot papers, to enable them to perpetrate their devices. It is widely recorded that over 88% of the voided ballots were PDP votes. He also cited several cases of the disruption of collation in some areas, including the case of Oredo where he said police, INEC,

Department of State Services, DSS and other security operatives watched akimbo as thugs came and packed result sheets. Describing it as a travesty of justice, Ize-Iyamu also noted the open inducement of voters with sums of N2,000 to N5,000 saying that the state authorities poured out at between N4 billion and N5 billion to bribe voters.

RETURN THE ILLGAL ALLOWANCE IN 3 DAYS OR I'LL PUBLISH YOUR NAMES, JUBRIN TOLD HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

Suspended lawmaker, Abdulmumin Jibrin, on Thursday gave his colleagues in the House of Representatives three days to return all questionable allowances they paid themselves.
Mr. Jibrin said any lawmaker who fails to heed his call should be prepared for the backlash that would follow when he publishes details of how such official perpetrated the fraud.
Mr. Jibrin’s statement came a day after he was suspended by the House for 180 legislative days —approximately a full calendar year as the House sits three times a week— after being found guilty of violating House ethics and lawmakers’ privileges.

It also came a month after Mr. Jibrin accused his colleagues of raking in millions in illegal allowances, and after he indicted himself as having received N650 million illegally.
To return their loot, Mr. Jibrin advised his colleagues to individually approach the appropriate authority and make arrangement on how to pay everything back into the federal purse.

“I have written to the Clerk of the National Assembly to stand by in anticipation,” Mr. Jibrin said.  “In the face of the revenue challenges and biting hardship the country is currently facing, there is no better time the country needs such money than now.”
Mr. Jibrin said he resolved to take this action after receiving numerous enquiries from different corners on the need for him to back his allegations against the House leadership and other lawmakers with evidence.
I have come under intense public scrutiny and pressure to prove that there exists systemic corruption in the House,” Mr. Jibrin said.

Mr. Jibrin said he was specifically demanding the return of a N10 million illegal allowances his colleagues allocated to themselves while the poor were struggling to make ends meet.
House spokesman, Abdulrazak Namdas, did not respond to PREMIUM TIMES’ request for comment Thursday night.

Mr. Jibrin had frequently threatened to release “shocking” details about fraud in the House since he first accused Speaker Yakubu Dogara of budget fraud over two months ago.
On August 27, Mr. Jibrin said he had identified two governors working to shield Mr. Dogara from prosecution and vowed to reveal their identities. He has yet to do so.

Similarly, Mr. Jibrin said on September 19 that he was releasing some revelations “that will send shock down the spines of Nigerians”. He hasn’t done that, either.
Mr. Jibrin said the process that led to his suspension was flawed and vowed to reverse it in the court of law.

THEY USED FETISH POWERS ON ME BUT THEY FAILED, THE PASTOR THAT DESTROYED SHRINE POST!

A clergyman, Wale Fagbere, who was reportedly paralysed after destroying a shrine in Aiyetoro in Ogun, has said that people mistook his posture at the shrine for paralysis.
Mr. Fagbere, who presides over the Christ Apostolic Church, CAC, Ona-Iye parish, Ayetoro , stated this at a press conference in Abeokuta.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the press conference was organised by the Ogun branch of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN.
Mr. Fagbere was reportedly stricken in the process of destroying a shrine in Ketu community of Aiyetoro in Yewa North Council

Area of Ogun on September 20.
The pastor, who was reported to have been stricken by the angry ‘gods’ of the shrine, allegedly regained consciousness after custodians of the shrine carried out some rites on him.

This was said to have followed the intervention of the Alaye of Ayetoro, Abdulazeez Adelakun.
But Mr. Fagbere , who admitted that the traditionalists tried many charms on him, claimed that none worked.
He said that he only stood still and kept mute at the scene in conformity with God’s commandment to him.
Mr. Fagbere, who narrated his story to journalists, said: “About what happened at Ayetoro, it was from God and direction from the Holy Spirit for the deliverance of Ayetoro from darkness.
“God told me that I should go to the shrine to bring out those things for the liberation of Ayetoro.

When I started what God told me, He told me to do three things in the shrine .
“He said that when I get there, I should evacuate; I should step aside and remain silent when people come out to see me .
“So, I did exactly as instructed by God on that September 20 .
“I got there around 5.a.m. and after I took out those things ,God told me to wait and stay and I did so.
“It was not their gods that held me transfixed or struck me; it was the idol worshipers that struck me with their charms.
“When I was taken to the palace, I told them that all my actions were directed by God and not human beings or the church of God.
“Although, they tried many charms on me, none was effective on me.
“I only followed the instruction of God that I should be quiet and they too know the truth .”

The state Chairman of CAN, Tunde Akin-Akinsanya , described the reports, especially those on social media, as exaggerated.
He said that the body intended to correct the misconception about the incident.
The Regional Coordinator of Yewa/Awori Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, PFN, Lola Dada, said at the briefing that the custodians of the shrine demanded for money from the family and CAN to appease the gods.
“They demanded for things they claimed they wanted to use for sacrifice.

“They asked the family of the pastor to pay N300,000 while CAN should bring N200,000, making it N500,000 for the sacrifice to appease their gods.

However, no money was given to them and peace has returned to the town,” he said.
Although the police had moved to charge Mr. Fagbere for malicious damage and act capable of breaching public peace, the case may not continue.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi, told journalists on Thursday that the case might not continue because the traditionalists “were dragging their feet on the case”.

BUHARI CONGRATULATE OBASEKI

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday said the outcome of the governorship election in Edo State reflected the mood of the people of the state.
He therefore congratulated the government and people of the state on the successful conclusion of the election and the victory of the All Progressives Congress’ candidate, Godwin Obaseki, at the polls.

According to a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, the President conveyed his congratulatory message in a telephone conversation he had with Governor Adams Oshiomhole.

Buhari was said to have commended what he described as the well-articulated campaign programme of the APC in the state, the doggedness of the governor, governor-elect and party members.
He lauded them for going round the state to reach the people with records of good governance over the years and a promise of continuity.

The President said the outcome of the election clearly reflected the mood of the people to sustain the pedigree of responsiveness, forthrightness and diligence that Oshiomhole brought into the service of his people.
“The victory is good for democracy, for Nigeria and the people of Edo State,” he said.
Buhari said the victory was well-deserved as the campaign train, which he joined, worked hard to sell its people-centered manifesto.

The President also applauded the conduct of the Independent National Electoral Commission, security agencies, corps members and electorate in ensuring a peaceful election.
INEC had announced that Obaseki won the majority of the votes cast, with a total of 319,483 votes, and he was closely followed by Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu of the PDP, who polled 253,173 votes.

OYEGUN LOSS IN HIS POLING UNIT

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, on Wednesday lost to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party in his polling unit in the September 28 governorship election.
Odigie-Oyegun, who registered in Ward 2, Unit 2, in Oredo Local Government Area, voted at about 10:45am.
The national chairman had also lost his polling unit in the 2015 Presidential election in the state.

At the end of voting, sorting and counting, the PDP candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, scored 78 votes while the ruling APC trailed behind with 69 votes.
Odigie-Oyegun, however, expressed satisfaction with the exercise, describing the turnout of voters as a pleasant surprise.
While addressing journalists shortly after casting his vote, he said, “I am pleasantly surprised because this is the best turnout I have ever experienced. I hope it presumes that something good is about to happen.”
He also noted that interest of the residents in the process of electing their leaders, showed that democracy had become widespread.
Odigie-Oyegun added, “People are keen to express their democratic options and democracy has become totally widespread. It is a very good thing. It has been peaceful so far.”

RECESSION IS COMING TO AN END IN NIGERIA -ADEOSUN

The Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, has said the country is already getting out of the economic recession, given the pragmatic approaches the Federal Government is taking to reverse the trend.
She said this on Wednesday while fielding questions from journalists at the end of a two-day National Council of Finance and Economic Development conference held at the Green Legacy Resort, Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Abeokuta.

It was held in conjunction with the Federal Ministry of Finance with the theme: ‘Enhancing revenue generation and obtaining best value for money in expenditure.’

Commissioners of finance from the 36 states across the country were in attendance.
She noted that since the problems have been identified, and steps are already being taken to block waste, the road to recovery was sure.
She said, “We are already getting out of recession because of the actions the Federal Government is taking.
“We are investing more in capital than we have ever invested. We are sorting out infrastructure, we are stopping wastage and so the signs of recovery are already there.”
She explained that agriculture and solid minerals are already starting to grow, as they are responding to government’s policy initiative.

Adeosun said stakeholders from 36 states across the country had brainstormed for two days while resource persons also delivered papers, adding that the economic recovery would be driven at the state and local government levels.
She advised finance commissioners and the accountant-generals in the states to compute their balance sheets, which would show their assets and liabilities.

NIGERIAN ARMY PREPARE FOR FINAL ATTACK TO RESCUE CHIBOK GIRLS

The Nigerian Army says it will launch “Operation Rescue Final’’ aimed at rescuing abducted persons.

The Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai, said this on Wednesday when the House of Representatives Committee on Army, led by its Chairman, Rimande Shawulu, paid him oversight visit.
Mr. Buratai, a Lt. Gen., had hinted of the operation in Makurdi on September 22 at the close of the combined 2nd and 3rd quarter Chief of Army Staff Conference.

The chief of Army staff, who, did not give further details on the operation, said: “Once we start (the operation), we will not relent until everybody abducted is rescued”.
Mr. Buratai thanked the committee for increased budget allocation to the army in 2016 and solicited for more support to enable it carry out its statutory functions.
On the issue of human rights, he promised that the army would continue respect and not infringe on the rights of the people, while carrying out its duty.

Mr. Buratai, however, noted that whatever had happened in the course of personnel performing their duty was not “deliberate’’.
He said to ensure respect for human rights, discipline and professionalism, the army launched its human right policy on Tuesday.

Earlier, Mr. Shawulu commended the army for the fight against insurgency and other security challenges nationwide in spite of the challenges of poor funding, inadequate equipment and state of their barracks.
The chairman, however, noted that because they were deployed in almost all the states, performing functions, which ordinarily were not theirs, there had been “friction’’ with civilians.
“We are requesting for quicker responses to the issues and matters referred from the committee to you.
“This is important to assure members of the public that there is a channel that can lead to legal, constitutional and peaceful resolution of their complaints.
“This will ensure that people do not seek extra legal resolutions,’’ Mr. Shawulu said.
He assured that the committee would continue to support the army to enable it discharge its duties effectively.

Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno has promised to rebuild churches and other structures destroyed by the Boko Haram insurgents in Lassa as he visited liberated communities in the Southern Senatorial Zone of the state.
“We will rebuild churches, private and public buildings destroyed by the insurgents,” Shettima said when he accessed the level of damage in Lassa in Askira-Uba Local Government Area on Wednesday.

He expressed shock at the magnitude of destruction, saying that government would commence the rehabilitation in a short while.
He said, “We are going to rebuild churches and others structures destroyed in Lassa and other communities around.

“We are saddened by the large scale destruction in Lassa which is a predominantly Christian community.”
“We are doing this because we have a duty as a government to ensure fairness, equity and justice in all our endeavors.

“We believe that the Christian community has rights to be served like its Muslims counterpart, since we have rebuilt Mosques destroyed in other places, we must rebuild churches too.”
Shettima said specifically that the churches would be rebuilt before Christmas ahead of this year’s Yuletide.
He said, “I want to assure that the churches will be rebuilt before December, so that the people can celebrate the Christmas in a more conducive atmosphere.
“We will also make sure that all private houses destroyed are rebuild without delay,” he said, adding that his action had no political undertone.
“We are not doing this for political reasons because we are not facing any election now. Our actions are based on the desire to serve people and to ensure equity among them.”

He also visited the Emir of Uba, Alhaji Ali Mamza and the Emir of Askira Alhaji Abdullahi Askirama, where he pledged to rebuild the Askira-Uba Local Government Area secretariat and other structures damaged by the insurgents.

Nigeria’s Attorney General stalls Saraki’s forgery trial

The trial of Senate President, Bukola Saraki, for alleged forgery was stalled on Wednesday, because the prosecution counsel, Aliyu Umar, said he had not prepared his response to a fresh motion by the defendants challenging the jurisdiction of the court.
Mr. Umar is prosecuting the case on behalf of the Attorney General of the Federal, Abubakar Malami.
Mr. Saraki, Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu, former Clerk of the National Assembly, Salisu Maikasuwa, and his deputy, Benedict Efeturi, are facing trial for alleged forgery of the Senate standing rules used to elect them as leaders of the Senate in June last year.
The matter was adjourned in July till September 28 following the annual vacation of the judiciary.
At the opening of session on Wednesday, Mr. Umar informed the court that he had just received a motion from the defendants challenging the jurisdiction of the court in respect of the charges against them and asking that the case be dismissed.
He added that since the matter has to do with the fundamental right of parties to fair hearing, he needs to properly prepare his response to the motion.
“Just now I became aware of a motion by the first defendant and served on us on September 26. The motion is fundamental because it is asking your lordship to decline jurisdiction and quash the charges. It is a short notice‎,” he said.
“I have not filed anything‎. It is fundamental to fair hearing. Under the circumstances, I will ask for an adjournment to enable me to respond to the motion.
“Honestly, I’m not ready for this motion. If it is only just two days, grant us the adjournment to respond to the motion,” he said.
Mr. Umar further said he had some internal issues he needed to attend to, before responding to the motion.

Malami’s fault

‎The counsel to the defendants objected the application for adjournment.
“T‎he act of prosecution is serious business, especially in a criminal charge. The office of the Attorney-General which is the chief prosecuting counsel was served months ago. They had all the opportunities to respond to our applications,” said Mahmud Magaji, counsel to Mr. Efeturi.
“I urge your lordship not to allow us to descend to the internal working of the prosecution. In view of this, I’m objecting to the application for adjournment,”
Counsel to Mr. Saraki, Paul Erokoro, also asked the court to refuse application, describing it as lacking in merit.
“O‎n behalf of the third defendant I submit that the application has no merit. If the Attorney-General has not deemed it fit to pass the entire case file to the counsel, then we should be allowed to move our motion. We are ready to proceed,” said Mr. Erokoro.
The trial judge, Yusuf Haliru, adjourned the matter till October 7.

EFCC REARRAIGN GOVERNOR KALU AND OTHERS

6 for commencement of trial.

U.S. ELECTION DEBATE GO VIRAL

Donald Trump’s case of the sniffles during Monday night’s presidential debate with Hillary Clinton has gone viral on social media, spawning jokes and ironic asides about a candidate who has made his opponent’s health an issue.
Hashtags like Sniffles, TrumpSniffles and Trumpsniffing proliferated after the Republican sniffled repeatedly in the opening minutes of the widely watched matchup.

Others asked about Trump’s health. “Sounds like pneumonia to me,” tweeted former Democratic congressman John Dingell.
Pneumonia knocked Clinton off the campaign for a few days trail earlier this month, after Trump had repeatedly raised questions about her health and stamina.

In an interview with “Fox and Friends,” Trump said he didn’t have a cold or allergies. “There were no sniffles,” he said.

PYTHON BITES A MAN POSING SEFIES

Forest department officials in India have promised strict action after a python attacked a man when a group was trying to click a photo with the snake.
The incident took place on Friday after forest department officials removed the python from the premises of a school in northwestern Rajasthan State.
People in the group were posing for pictures with it after successfully capturing it.
Deputy Conservator of Forests, K.G. Shrivastav said the incident was unexpected as all officers were highly trained.

“I wanted the snake to be released in my presence, but the officials released it before I could reach the spot.
“I had no clue that civilians were also present at the spot and something could go wrong as all the officials are highly trained.
“Clicking selfies with the snake and releasing the photos publicly is an offence under the Wildlife Act and we will issue notice to all involved in this incident,’’ Shrivastav said.
The victim, Ashok Vishnoi, accepted that the incident happened due to carelessness on his part.
“The moment I received the news, I reached the location. I did not realise how close I was to the python and it attacked me. This is entirely my fault,” said the victim.
Vishnoi added that the mishap happened in a short span of time in spite that the rescue officials had a strong grip on the reptile.
The snake was later released

PASTOR WAS NABED FOR DESTROYING SHRINE!

The Ogun Police Command says it will prosecute a Pentecostal pastor, Wale Fagbere, who allegedly invaded a traditional shrine in Ketu area of Ayetoro in Ogun.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr Abimbola Oyeyemi, said on Monday that the cleric would be charged for malicious damage and conduct likely to cause a breach of public peace.
He said, “What he did was wrong and so he must be charged to court. If it was the other way round too, they will also be charged to court.
“Everyone has a right to worship whatever deity one chooses without fear or favour, “he said.

Oyeyemi, however, said he could not tell in which court the accused would be arraigned as at press time.
Fagbere on Saturday attempted to pull down a traditional shrine in Ketu, Yewa North Local Government Area of the state.
But he was reported to have immediately gone numb upon entering the shrine, attracting a crowd to the scene.
He, however, regained consciousness after the traditional ruler of the town, Oba Abdulaziz Adelakun, intervened and directed that some some traditional rites be carried out on him.

Ondo Election: Mimiko not sponsoring us, UPN says

Ondo Election: Mimiko not sponsoring us, UPN says

The candidate of the Unity Party of Nigeria for the forthcoming governorship election in Ondo State, Mr. Bola Aidi, has denied the report that the state governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, is sponsoring him and his party for the November election.
It has been alleged that both the Peoples Democratic Party and the All Progressives Congress in the state are sponsoring some lesser political parties in order to make the smaller parties merge with their sponsors, which will then acquire their followers and supporters across the state before the election day.
Aidi. who addressed journalists at the UPN’s state secretariat in Akure on Monday, said the UPN was the father of all political parties in the South-West, adding that the party laid the foundation for development in Ondo State.
He said, ” It is not possible for us to be sponsored by Mimiko for the election. The platform on which we are is greater than that of PDP or APC. UPN is the grandfather of all parties in the South-West. “Even if there is going to be any endorsement, it is the UPN that will endorse any of them.
“The UPN is being sponsored by the entire Yoruba race and can never be sponsored by any government or any individual. We can never be stooges of Mimiko.
“Some other parties can form alliance with the PDP or APC, but we in UPN are independent; nobody can buy us with money. UPN will never merge with any party in forthcoming election.”

BELGIUM: SICK CHILD BECOMES FIRST MINOR TO BE EUTHANIZED

Belgium: Sick Child Becomes First Minor to be Euthanized

A terminally ill minor has been euthanized in Belgium, becoming the first child to be euthanized in the country since Belgium removed its age restrictions on euthanasia two years ago.
According to CNN, the child was suffering from an incurable disease and had asked for euthanasia, Sen. Jean-Jacques De Gucht said.
"I think it's very important that we, as a society, have given the opportunity to those people to decide for themselves in what manner they cope with that situation," said Gucht, a supporter of euthanasia legislation.
Belgium legalized euthanasia in 2002 and then in 2014 the bill was extended to those under the age of 18 with the provision that the child understood was euthanasia means. Parental consent must also be given.
"This can only be in cases of serious and incurable diseases, which is the same thing for adults ... but for minors an additional condition is that the death must be expected in the near future," said Jacqueline Herremans, president of Belgium’s Association for the Right to Die with Dignity.
Meanwhile, Pastor Denny Burke says that America is “not so far behind” Belgium’s precedent.
“If life is only reckoned as valuable based on utility or quality of life, then when society deems such lives unworthy of living consent may no longer be required,” he wrote in a column on his blog. “Utilitarianism can be a conscience-crushing, life-destroying moral argument. And we must oppose it wherever it raises itself up against the image of God (2 Corinthians 10:5). This is a slippery slope that we must not go down, but it appears we are already on the move.”
PLAGIARIZED!

ADDRESS BY HIS EXCELLENCY, MUHAMMADU BUHARI, PRESIDENT OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA AT THE UNITED STATES – AFRICA BUSINESS FORUM, NEW YORK, USA, SEPTEMBER 21, 2016

I am delighted to be present here today at the 2nd edition of the United States–Africa Business Forum. I wish to thank the United States Department of Commerce and Bloomberg Philanthropies for organizing this event and for giving me this opportunity to address this august gathering of Political and Business Leaders from the United States of America (USA), Africa and other regions of the World. I believe all of us will take advantage of this Forum to establish and strengthen business relationships; share valuable experience; and collaborate for mutual benefits.
For the benefit of our prospective partners new to Nigeria let me briefly tell you about my country. It is a nation of about 180 million people. Which means an abundance of labour. We are blessed with arable land, forests water, oil and gas, solid minerals, livestock and great tourist potential. Many of these economic sectors have barely been exploited. There is therefore tremendous potential for the foreign investment and for the local economy.

The United States has historically been one of Nigeria’s main trading partners. For decades, the US was the biggest importer of Nigeria’s crude oil. In the last two years, however, the sharp decline in US imports of our crude, on account of rising domestic production of Shale, has altered the trade balance between our two countries. But it has also thrown up opportunities for Nigeria to increase its non-oil exports – especially in agricultural products – to the U.S.
But Nigeria enjoys a long and mutually beneficial trade and investment relations with USA. This relationship has culminated in massive inflow of Foreign Direct Investment into Nigeria. There are several US Companies doing business in Nigeria, including Exxon-Mobil, Chevron, General Electric, IBM, Microsoft, Procter and Gamble, Coca-Cola, Pepsi Company, British-American Tobacco Company, UPS Courier Company, BCG, Johnson Wax Nigeria Ltd, Pfizer Pharmaceuticals, to name a few. Furthermore, Nigeria shares with America the democratic culture with respect to the rule of law in business and commercial intercourse.
These are no doubt challenging times for the Nigerian economy. But let me use this opportunity to boldly affirm our conviction that there is no crisis without an accompanying opportunity. In our case, we see Nigeria’s ongoing economic challenges – occasioned mainly by the fall in oil prices – as an opportunity to set the economy firmly on the path of true diversification, sustainable economic growth, and shared prosperity.
Since the inception of this Administration in 2015, major efforts have been aimed at ensuring that Nigerians enjoy rising standards of living. We campaigned for and came into office on the back of three fundamental issues: One, Securing Nigeria from terrorism and banditry, Two, Fighting corruption and ensuring that public funds work for the public good, and Three, Revamping an economy that was dangerously dependent on crude oil, and afflicted by rising inequality and jobless growth. We are pleased to note that our efforts are yielding fruit.
(On Security) – Hundreds of communities and thousands of people have been liberated from the clutches of the terrorists, under our watch, and are now getting a chance with support from the government and the international community, to rebuild their homes and their lives.
(On corruption) – Our quest is to ensure, through a combination of institution-building and judicial efforts, that public funds work for the public good, and that persons responsible for overseeing the use of these funds come to this task with the utmost sense of transparency and accountability. Earlier this year we signed up to the Open Government Partnership, a clear demonstration of our commitment to a radical departure from a past characterized by large-scale state-sponsored corruption. Let me also assure this audiences that we will continue to strengthen Government institutions established to address investors’ concerns.
(On the economy) – We are weaning ourselves from a historical dependence on crude oil, diversifying our economy, and putting it on the path of sustainable and inclusive growth. To this end, we have embarked on policies aimed at establishing an open, rules-based and market-oriented economy. We will continue to actively engage with the private sector at the highest levels to listen to your concerns and to assure you of our commitment to creating enabling policies in which your businesses can  survive and thrive. Indeed, we have constituted a Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council headed by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, which is working on a wide range of business environment reforms, ranging from making our planned visa-on-arrival regime a reality, to ports reform, to improving the speed and efficiency of land titling and business registration. We aspire to make Nigeria one of the most attractive places to do business.
Let me now focus on the priority investment sectors for our administration: Infrastructure, Industry, Agriculture, Mining and the Digital Economy.
Infrastructure: For far too long Nigeria has under-invested in the critical infrastructure necessary for a modern economy. Now, that is set to change. We are working hard to bridge an electricity deficit of several thousand megawatts, which will require substantial private sector investment, especially in Transmission. Our railway system is being opened up after decades of government monopoly that has hindered the needed private sector investment. We are well on course with a concessioning deal that will see General Electric take over hundreds of kilometers of existing rail assets, and invest billions of dollars to upgrade assets and services.
On Industry, there is the Nigerian Industrial Plan that has come into force. The implementation is directed at interventions to improve productivity and output in five industry groups, namely: agri-business and agro-allied; solid minerals and metals; oil and gas; construction, and light manufacturing.
Currently, investments and partnerships are being directed to leather and leather products; sugar; palm oil processing; food processing, specifically tomato and fruit processing. Automobile assembly and manufacturing are important to the diversification of the Nigerian economy. Industrial zones and parks are being established. This is work in progress. American, indeed other foreign investors, are invited to come and avail themselves of the opportunities we are creating.
In Agriculture, through our Agricultural Promotion Policy (APP), we are prioritizing the improvement in domestic production of rice, wheat, maize, fish, dairy milk, soya beans, poultry, fruits and vegetables, and sugar, as well as the export of cowpeas, cocoa, cashew, cassava (starch, chips and ethanol), ginger, sesame, oil palm, fruits and vegetables, groundnuts and cotton. To achieve these goals, we are ready to partner with and support willing private investors, by creating an environment that is stable, safe, and competitive. I am pleased to note that Coca Cola has recently invested substantially in one of Nigeria’s best-known dairy and fruit juice companies, and is looking to increase its stake over the next few years.
In Mining, Nigeria is determined to build a world class minerals and mining ecosystem designed to serve a targeted domestic and export market. To accomplish this, we are prioritizing exploration, local processing of our mineral assets with provision of generous incentives including favorable tax regimes and royalties to investors interested in our market. We have as part of this identified mineral resources, which exist in commercially viable quantities, and designated them as strategic priorities for Nigeria’s domestic Industrialisation and Infrastructure requirements. At the same time we are not unmindful of environmental concerns and safety and welfare of miners.

Opportunities abound in the Digital Economy, which, like Infrastructure.
